The
Foxwood Flyer

Dave Brown,
Mark Hopkinson, Steve Greenwood,
Mr Brian
Slingsby, Mark Dixon and
Chris Benn,
Many thanks to Mark Hopkinson for the photo and article
The original car was built for a Daily Mail - BP
competition in 1978 and schools throughout Britain took
part in designing and completing a 'city car'. The one
in the photo was nothing like the car built to enter the
competition - that one had four wheel drive as well as having four
wheel steering and it also had doors and a roof, then
after the competition Teacher Brian Slingsby took over
the project and the car was put back to front wheel
drive together with front wheel steer, The vehicle was
lightened by removing the doors and roof and roll bars
were added for safety, it was then used by pupils to
learn how to drive.
Needless to
say the car never went into full production as it never
won the competition!
The prototype
can be seen here on one of its many test drives.

(sadly not
such a good photocopy)
